One thing I love is a fabulous work space. A clean, bright, organized office with a plentiful selection of fun pens and cute note pads. However, for the last couple of years I haven’t had a permanent work space. One day it was the breakfast table, the next day it was the couch and it was hard to be productive. A few years ago, my husband and I bought a 100 year old farmhouse and it has been a labor of love (with a few expletives) making it our own. Unfortunately, the office space was the last item on the list because it now sits in the former kitchen.
When the demo crew arrived a few months ago to rip out the old cabinets and 1980’s black floral and fruit wallpaper, I was beyond excited! The vision was finally coming to life! The only thing that remained after demo was the heart pine floors (love them) and the new office was ready to be installed. In came white shaker style cabinets giving me plenty of storage for samples and fabric swatches and file drawers for the paperwork that must be done too. My new 4 foot by 4 foot work island is my new happy place. I can spread out all my paperwork or I can work on patterns and sketches. I truly have a sense of giddiness each time I walk in there.
The new office has given me a sense of balance and structure too. Since I am no longer displaced working on any surface not covered in Legos, I am organized! My mornings are spent cooking breakfast and packing lunch with my son and once I return from school drop off, I pour a second cup of coffee and go straight to the office. I tackle the pesky paperwork first so I can get it checked off and filed away. Then, I get to focus on new fabric swatches, pattern sketching, and reviewing updates our fabulous graphic designer, Kayla, has added into Dropbox. After I have these items wrapped up, I go check in at our warehouse to assist with shipping our website and retailer orders. Lauren, our multi tasker extraordinaire, usually greets me with a camera around her neck updating website pictures while pulling new arrivals and packing them in orders!
Speaking of our warehouse, we just moved into a new space. As I mentioned in my last blog our 75 foot hallway of hanging rod for tunics is fantastic! Plus, it is getting more vibrant by the day with the deliveries of resort 2017 colors that will soon be on their way to stores! Thank goodness Kayla and Lauren love organizing too because the new warehouse is looking great! I don’t think any of us have needed to go to the gym in the last two weeks with all of this moving!
I am organized and ready for my Monday morning routine! Tasks this week include finalizing orders for summer fabrics and production, sending out round one of fall fabric prints to our manufacturers, and shipping out tartan Parker tunics as fast as we can get them restocked. I am over the moon excited to share with you all of the great things happening and on the horizon from the Haley and the Hound team!
